A Fairy-Tale Wedding at the Don Carlos Hotel, Marbella

In the heart of the lavish Don Carlos Hotel in Marbella, we witnessed a wedding that was nothing short of a fairy tale. From the onset, every detail, every moment was meticulously curated to make it a day to remember for not only the couple but for every guest that was part of this beautiful journey.

For a shot of the guests enjoying the Cuban band: "Wedding guests dancing joyously to the beats of a lively Cuban band by the poolside at Don Carlos Hotel.

It all began in the sprawling gardens of the hotel. With the sun blazing down, we had set up an icy Moët & Chandon station to quench the thirst of our guests. Given the heat, a refreshing water station was a haven for all. As guests sipped their drinks, their gaze was naturally drawn to the centerpiece of the garden – a luxuriously crafted round arch adorned with pristine white flowers. This arch was symbolic, not just as a wedding gateway, but as the threshold to the union of two souls and two cultures – he, from the vibrant cityscapes of Germany, and she, from the heart of Romania.

The gentle strums of a violin punctuated the air as the couple exchanged vows, bringing tears to the eyes of many. This melodious backdrop continued as guests were treated to a variety of canapés, each more delicious than the last.

As the sun began its descent, casting a golden hue across the horizon, guests were ushered to the pool area. Tables set under the canopy of stars, they dined on exquisite cuisine, each bite a testament to the love that was being celebrated. And just as stars twinkle in the night, so did the feet of our guests. The sounds of an electrifying Cuban band filled the night, and before long, everyone was dancing, the joy palpable in the air.

The joyous evening saw many highlights - the cutting of the cake, a symbol of the sweetness that the future holds for our couple, and the initiation of the after-party with a bespoke gin station, serving the finest blends.

As the first dance ensued, the night sky was lit with fireworks, each burst echoing the emotions of the day. The revelry then shifted to the mystical cave area of the hotel. As the DJ dropped the beats, the dance floor came alive, and we danced into the wee hours of the morning.

For those of us fortunate to have been a part of this celebration, it wasn’t just another wedding. It was a union of love, cultures, and souls, set against the backdrop of luxury, making it an affair to remember. Cheers to the beautiful couple and to the memories created at the Don Carlos Hotel.

Introduction

Barbie is more than just a doll - she's an icon of glamour, style, and endless imagination. If you've ever dreamed of stepping into Barbie's world, why not let those dreams come to life on your wedding day? Gibraltar's stunning scenery offers the perfect backdrop for a fun and fabulous Barbie-themed wedding. Read on to discover how you can plan the ultimate Barbie World wedding with us in Gibraltar!

The Venue

Choosing the right venue is a crucial step in setting the tone for your Barbie-themed wedding. Gibraltar, with its beautiful landscapes, offers a plethora of locations to create your Barbie dream world. Perhaps you'd like an elegant ceremony in a grand hall reminiscent of Barbie's Dreamhouse, or maybe a beachside setting under the Gibraltar sun, evoking memories of Barbie's endless summer adventures.

The Decor

When it comes to decor, think pink! But remember, Barbie is versatile, so feel free to explore the spectrum of pink hues from soft blush to vibrant fuschia. Add glamorous touches with elements like chandeliers, sequins, and satin drapes. Incorporate vintage Barbie silhouettes and motifs for a touch of nostalgia, and consider adding thematic elements, like a tropical cocktail bar for a nod to Beach Barbie, or a red carpet photo area for Hollywood Barbie.

The Attire

Your Barbie-themed wedding is the perfect excuse to have fun with fashion. Brides can consider glamorous ballgowns or chic, form-fitting dresses that Barbie herself would love. Don't forget the sparkle - rhinestones, sequins, and glitter are all welcome! For the groom, think classic Ken – sharp suits in classic or playful colours, complete with bowties or ties.

The Menu

Bring your theme to life with a Barbie-inspired menu. Consider a cocktail hour with "Barbie-tinis" in bright pink, and a tiered wedding cake in Barbie's signature colour. You could even add a playful touch with childhood favorites, like gourmet cotton candy or mini sliders, just like at a Barbie picnic!

Photography

Capture the magic of your Barbie-themed wedding with a photographer who knows how to play up the theme. Think: posed shots that mimic classic Barbie and Ken packaging, or candid photos that capture the fun and glamour of the day.

A Barbie-themed wedding in Gibraltar offers the chance to step into a world of glamour, nostalgia, and endless fun. Celebrating Vibrant Indian Weddings with Hour Weddings in Gibraltar and Southern Spain

We at Hour Weddings are honoured to have had the opportunity to facilitate splendid Indian weddings in the enchanting environments of Gibraltar, Malaga, and Marbella. As wedding coordinators, it’s pivotal to have a nuanced understanding of the myriad customs and intricate rituals that are the essence of Indian weddings. Monica, being of Hindu faith herself, brings invaluable firsthand insight, ensuring each celebration is imbued with authenticity and reverence.

Indian weddings are globally revered for their vibrant colours, elaborate rites, and lavish celebrations spanning several days. They’re a harmonious amalgamation of rich traditions and emotions, symbolising the union of two families and the commencement of a new shared journey.

A Tapestry of Rich Traditions and Jubilant Celebrations

A cornerstone of these celebrations is the exchange of garlands between the bride and groom, a symbol of their reciprocal acceptance as life partners. The ‘Mehendi’ ceremony is another focal event where the bride’s hands and feet are adorned with intricate henna designs, symbolising beauty and spiritual awakening. The ‘Sangeet’ is a musical extravaganza where both families unite in a symphony of song and dance.

The wedding ceremony is woven with diverse rituals like the ‘Kanyadaan,’ where the bride’s father entrusts her hand to the groom, and the ‘Saat Phere,’ where the couple circles a sacred fire seven times, each round representing a solemn vow. Indian wedding traditions may vary by region and religion, but they converge on a universal theme of celebrating the union of two souls.

Expert Planning for a Memorable Celebration

Given the multitude of sub-ceremonies, each necessitating meticulous attention to detail, a seasoned wedding planner becomes indispensable. At Hour Weddings, we ensure every nuance of your celebration is perfectly curated. Our preferred venues for such grandiosity include the Sunborn Hotel in Gibraltar and the Villa Padierna Anantara Hotel in Spain.

Amalfi themed 2023 wedding

Hour Weddings has had the pleasure of organising an Amalfi themed wedding at the Alameda gardens in May. We wanted to share with you our plan behind this wedding theme which has become so incredibly popular with our clients.

An Amalfi-themed wedding draws inspiration from the stunning Amalfi Coast in Italy. It captures the essence of Mediterranean charm, incorporating elements such as vibrant colors, coastal beauty, and rustic elegance. Here's a description of an Amalfi-themed wedding and some supplies you might consider:

  1. Décor and Atmosphere:

    • Colors: Opt for a vibrant color palette inspired by the Amalfi Coast, including shades of blue, yellow, turquoise, and coral.

    • Florals: Choose local blooms like bougainvillea, lemons, white roses, and olive branches. Use them for centerpieces, bouquets, and floral arrangements.

    • Coastal Accents: Incorporate seashells, starfish, driftwood, and blue glass bottles as decorative elements.

    • Rustic Touches: Include wooden signage, lanterns, and natural materials like jute or burlap for a rustic vibe.

    • Mediterranean Details: Use colorful ceramic tiles, reminiscent of the region's famous majolica patterns, as table runners or coasters.

  2. Venue and Setting:

    • Location: Consider an outdoor venue with coastal views, such as a beachside or seaside location. In Gibraltar these are difficult to come by so the Alameda Gardens was a great option.

    • Arch or Canopy: Decorate an arch or canopy with flowing white fabric and fresh flowers to create a romantic ceremony space.

  3. Attire and Accessories:

    • Bride's Attire: Choose an elegant wedding gown with a flowing silhouette and delicate lace details. Consider accessories like a flower crown or hairpiece adorned with fresh flowers.

    • Groom's Attire: Opt for a lightweight linen suit in a light color, like beige or light blue, paired with a pastel-colored tie or bowtie.

    • Bridesmaids: Dress them in airy, pastel-colored dresses that complement the coastal theme.

    • Groomsmen: Have them wear light-colored suits or dress pants paired with a crisp white shirt and a coordinating tie or bowtie.

  4. Cuisine and Refreshments:

    • Italian Delights: Serve a selection of Italian-inspired dishes such as caprese salad, bruschetta, seafood pasta, and traditional Italian desserts like tiramisu or cannoli.

    • Signature Drinks: Offer refreshing cocktails like limoncello spritz, Aperol spritz, or a classic Bellini made with fresh peach puree.

  5. Favors and Extras:

    • Lemon-themed Gifts: Amalfi is known for its lemons, so consider providing lemon-themed favors such as lemon-scented candles, handmade limoncello bottles, or lemon-shaped soap.

    • Customized Coasters: Personalize coasters with the couple's names, wedding date, and Amalfi-inspired designs.

    • Welcome Bags: Assemble welcome bags with local treats, such as Amalfi Coast postcards, Italian sweets, and small bottles of limoncello.

Remember, these are just suggestions to help create an Amalfi-themed wedding. For more information on weddings in Gibraltar please contact us on info@hourweddings.com

Wedding Albums

Getting married with Hour Weddings for your destination wedding or elopement in Gibraltar? Hour Weddings, has recently been asked to do a wedding album alternative for guests. Here are some suggestions we would like to share:

  1. Photo book: Instead of a traditional album, you can create a photo book with your favorite wedding photos. There are many online services that allow you to design your own photo book, and you can even add text and other elements to make it more personal.

  2. Wall art: You can select some of your favorite wedding photos and turn them into wall art. You can choose canvas prints, framed prints, or even a photo collage. This way, you can display your wedding photos in a unique and artistic way.

  3. Video montage: You can create a video montage of your wedding photos set to music. You can use software such as iMovie or Adobe Premiere to create a video that tells the story of your special day.

  4. Scrapbook: If you are a DIY enthusiast, you can create a scrapbook with your wedding photos. You can add decorations, stickers, and other embellishments to make it more personalized.

  5. Digital album: You can create a digital album using an online service such as Google Photos or Dropbox. This way, you can easily share your photos with friends and family, and you can also access them from anywhere.

  6. Photo display: You can display your wedding photos in a creative way by using a photo display. You can hang them on a clothesline, create a photo wall, or even use them as table centerpieces.

These are just a few ideas for wedding album alternatives. The key is to find something that reflects your personality and style, and that will allow you to cherish your wedding memories for years to come.

As wedding planners we are always looking for creative new ways for brides & grooms so share their special day with loved ones. We arrange weddings in Gibraltar & South of Spain. Email us on info@hourweddings.com

Wedding elopements in Gibraltar

Wedding elopements have become a popular choice for couples who want to tie the knot in a more intimate and private setting. Hour Weddings Gibraltar is the queens of elopements & are here to assist you every step of your journey. Unlike traditional weddings that involve a large guest list, wedding elopements usually involve only the couple and a few close family members or friends. In this blog post, we'll explore what wedding elopements are, why they're becoming more popular, and some tips for planning your own elopement.

What is a wedding elopement?

Traditionally, elopements were viewed as secretive and spontaneous weddings that involved couples running away together to get married without their families' knowledge or consent. However, modern wedding elopements are much different. Nowadays, elopements are often planned in advance and involve just the couple, an officiant, and a few witnesses. Hour Weddings can provide free witnesses & stunning locations for your wedding in Gibraltar.

Elopements can take place anywhere, from a beautiful park to a stunning beach or even in a cozy cabin in the woods. They can be as simple or as elaborate as the couple wants, but the focus is always on the intimacy and connection between the two people getting married. Gibraltar has several beautiful locations.

Why are wedding elopements becoming more popular?

Wedding elopements are becoming more popular for several reasons. Firstly, they offer a more intimate and private way of getting married. Many couples feel that traditional weddings are too large and impersonal, and they want a more meaningful way to celebrate their love.

Secondly, elopements can be more affordable than traditional weddings. With no need to cater to a large guest list, couples can save money on venues, catering, and other wedding expenses. They can also choose to spend their money on other things, like a dream honeymoon or a down payment on a new home.

Finally, elopements offer more flexibility in terms of location and timing. Couples can choose to get married at any time of the year and in any location they want, without having to worry about the logistics of hosting a large event.

Then there are civil marriages, these are organised via the registry office & can only be carried out in specific venues in Gibraltar.

Registry Office

Many celebrities (John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Lawrence Harvey, Margaret Leighton, Frederick Forsythe, Sean Connery & Roger Moore to name but a few) have visited Gibraltar specifically to get married. The room in which John & Yoko got married is now, in fact, a storage cupboard in the registry office but there are plans to get this room renovated and made available again for registry office weddings for the complete 'John & Yoko' wedding experience. Should the sun gods be smiling down at you on the big day and, if you ask nicely, the registrar may just agree to conduct your ceremony outdoors in the little garden adjoining the registry office.

The Dell (Alameda Gardens)

Designed by a Genoese horticulturist, the Dell is an intimate venue perfect for intimate, outdoor, civil ceremonies. The pretty venue can hold up to 15 guests in the sunken area beneath the wooden bridge. For weddings with more than 15 guests, they may stand on the bridge itself looking down at the ceremony taking place in the garden below. The bridge is quite low so views are clear and uninterrupted and guests will still feel involved in the proceedings.

The Open Air Theatre (Alameda Gardens)

For larger wedding parties, the Open Air Theatre is a more apt choice as it can hold up to 450 guests. Here, you can get married whilst standing in the middle of a large, fish filled pond with your guests sitting on the grassy verge. Perfect for both ceremonies and receptions.

Wisteria Room (Rock Hotel)

Located at the Rock Hotel, the venue can hold up to 40 persons for a civil ceremony followed by meal. Glass patio doors lead out from the room onto a terrace overlooking the sea.

The Khaima (Rock Hotel)

A new & unique concept in Gibraltar, the Khaima is a large marquee with capacity for up to 200 guests located in the grounds of the Rock Hotel licensed for civil ceremonies. Its red, green & gold decor and flame torches give the impression of being in exotic Morocco hence its name which means marquee in Moroccan.

Mons Calpe Suite

Completely unique and completely epitomizing all that is Gibraltar! This venue offers you a vantage point at the top of the Rock as you take your vows. The views are incredible with the glittering blue ocean spread out beneath you; Spain ahead of you and Morocco to your right.

Bay & Rock View Suites (Elliotts Hotel)

You'll find these two suites on the 8th floor of the Eliott Hotel which is the pool level. The suites can be used as one large venue or may be divided to make 2 smaller rooms. The Rock View suite has a nice terrace suitable for outdoor drinks receptions. The venues are licensed for civil ceremonies.

Mayors Parlour (New Venue)

Set in the heart of town, a beautiful historical building with gorgeous backdrop of the Rock of Gibraltar. This venue is new & has a long waiting list.

Last but not least, we work with two restaurants which do weddings overlooking a pretty Marina. Yachts, champagne & wedding vows - I Do!
